The CNN story reports that the main contention that the judge and jury accepted was this:
"Warren Jeffs told them to go forward and multiply and replenish the Earth, and that is why that man is an accomplice to rape," prosecutor Brock Belnap said during the trial.Using the Good Book to do bad. Of course they'd throw the book at him. There was never a prayer that he would get away with this in court.
"It is a sordid story that shows the dark side of religion "
ReplyDeleteActually, it shows the dark side of *that* religion.
Just a clarification on your headline - Jeffs isn't a Mormon (member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints). He's got his own religion that's separate from the Mormons.
ReplyDeleteI have been an LDS for 17 years, and never heard of such teaching, to rape. I'm residing in the Philippines, and having a good family relationship with my family, so what's the dark side? Nothing dear brothers and sisters, I testify that the teachings of the church help us to draw neared unto Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
