Yaffa Ganz Nazi-like Gay-bashing

(Revised 7/9/06)
There is a World Pride parade for Gay rights planned for Jerusalem this summer. It was supposed to take place last summer. But due to the fear of violence resulting from the Gaza evacuation it was postponed.

There has been an Israeli gay pride parade in Jerusalem for the past 4 years under heavy security and allowed by court order. So this is nothing new to the holy city. What is new is the world wide participation.

Jerusalem Orthodox Jewish writer Yaffa Ganz does not like the idea of a gay rights parade in her holy city. Where was she for the past 4 years?

Anyhow she has written a gay-bashing opinion that sounds like it could have been penned by any articulate Nazi in 1939.

I say, Shame on her for preaching such bigotry. If she doesn't like this parade, she doesn't have to go to it. Here is jsut one choice tidbit from her awful article:
Love, borders & civilization in the Jerusalem Post: LOVE WITHOUT borders? Society is being raped. The underpinnings of human civilization are being whittled away as universal, natural law is being destroyed.

I have to disagree with Tzvee, as well. Yerushalayim is not a place to wantonly parade the transgresion of the Torah. I would be against a parade celebrating the tastiness of pork, or the joys of violating Shabbos, as well. What's against the Torah should not be celebrated in Yerushalayim. Let them parade in New York.

So the parade is OK in any other city? You make no sense.

Tzvee, you seemed to avoid the more important second sentence of the previous post; the one about pork and Shabbos. Any comments on that?

I'm just trying to figure out why this is ok anywhere but Yerushalayim. If they parade in Tel Aviv, that's ok? How about if they march around Yerushalayim but not inside? In other words, I see this as a protest against the public "desecration" of a city. But if the sin is what you are against, then you should be following these folks around to protest their lifestyles. It seems to me to be a strange case of NIMBY - where some Jews think that Yer. is their own back yard.

Anon was more interested in the location. I was more interested in the idea of celebrating pork eating or Shabbos desecration, and the like. I was hoping to see your thoughts on that part.

Bryce,

There is plenty of Shabbat desecration in Jerusalem now. Why do you not protest that every week?

There are treif restaurants in Jerusalem now. Why do you not protest that every day?

Seems that you are inconsistent.

Confusing reality with representations of reality is a fairly common mistake of religious believers. Consider the uproar over what the NY Times reports - or now the screaming over a parade. Neither the news nor the marching is the political and social reality. It is so much easier to attack those than to confront and tackle real issues, isn't it?

I agree with your last statement. At the same time, I stand by my "It is possible to succeed" statement. I'm not saying it is wise or unwise to protest; I'm just saying that it is possible to succeed in that protest. And let the record show that you still (3 times now?) haven't expressed your opinion about a Jewish parade celebrating pork eating or shabbos desecration.

I don't comment on the hypothetical. Let me know when those two parades are scheduled and I will consider at that time whether or how to respond.

For someone who commented on much of the Talmud, your statement, "I don't comment on the hypothetical," is very curious.
